Optical Splitter Frame (OSF) and Accessories Specification of STC TS 3307


1.1 Scope

1.1.1 This specification covers the minimum standards and requirements for the construction, properties, testing and packing of Optical Splitter Frame (OSF) and Accessories, to be supplied to Saudi Telecom Company (STC) for usage in Central Office (CO) as well as at customer’s locations.

1.1.2 This specification does not cover the standards and requirements for Fiber Optic Splitters which specified in specification no TS 3303.

1.1.3 This specification does not cover the standards and requirements for Pigtails and Fiber Cords which specified in specification no TS 3309.

1.2 Intended Use

1.2.1 The OSF shall be used in STC exchanges where transmission equipments (OLT) are located, to provide an interface point for performing each of the following functions:

a. Splitting the bandwidth of transmission system, operating up to STM 64 (2.5 Gbits/sec) to one of the following split ratios, 1:2 or 1:4.

b. Terminating incoming patch cord from OLT and outgoing patch cord to ODF.

c. Testing facilities between OLT and ODF.

1.2.2 The OSF with 1:32 split ratio shall be used in FDT or customer’s building where it’s ODF and terminating transmission equipments (ONT) are located, to provide an interface point for performing each of the following functions:

a. Splitting the bandwidth of transmission system with the following split ratio 1:32.

b. Terminating incoming fibers from the CO and outgoing fiber distribution cords to ONT of the end users.

c. Testing facilities between the CO and ONT.

1.3 Long Term Performance Requirements

1.3.1 The OSF supplied in compliance with this specification shall be capable of withstanding the typical service conditions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a period of twenty five (25) years without detriment to the transmission or operation and maintenance characteristics of products.

1.3.2 The OSF shall be designed, manufactured and packaged so that the physical, transmission, operation and maintenance characteristics shall not degrade when exposed to the environmental conditions of Saudi Arabia and the expected environmental conditions during storage and transportation outside of the Kingdom. The environmental conditions of Saudi Arabia may include ambient air temperature variations from -10°C to +55°C. In addition, direct solar radiation is known to increase the temperature to approximately 70°C.

1.4.1 The Saudi Telecom Company (STC) reserves the rights to make changes to this Specification without prior notice.

1.4.2 The Saudi Telecom Company (STC) cannot guarantee if any of the standards and requirements of this specification are not covered or protected by copyright or patent of third party.

Optical Splitter Frame (OSF):

OSF is a modular encapsulation of Optical Splitters in a rack mountable unit, with a patch panel for
input and output adapters.

2.1 General

2.1.1 The OSF shall be compatible with current STC installation standards and operation and maintenance practices.

2.1.2 Any alternative proposals for Type and Acceptance Testing will be subject to technical evaluation by the STC with regards to satisfactory compliance with the material and product qualities implied by this specification.

2.1.3 The OSF equipment shall be designed to allow multiple mounting on a standard metric (ETSI) rack. The OSF shall fit exactly onto the rack’s 515 mm center-to-center hole fixing width dimension, conforming to TS 3308. Additional brackets can be used to meet the need of fixing width dimension.

2.1.4 The OSF equipment, when installed on the metric (ETSI) rack, shall provide a minimum space of approximately 80 mm between the side panels of the OSF shelf and rack.

2.1.5 The OSF equipment shall be able to be efficiently handled and managed during termination, routing, securing and storage.

2.1.6 The OSF equipment shall be of high quality design, workmanship and finish. All components of the OSF equipment shall be free of sharp edges or other defects that may detract from the service requirements of the equipment.

2.1.7 Installation of the OSF equipment shall require only simple hand-tools.

2.1.8 All metallic parts of the OSF equipment shall be corrosion-proof.

2.1.9 All polymeric parts shall have a flammability rating of V-0 to UL 94.

2.1.10 Test result data and individual characteristics for the OSF equipment and its components such as the unit of fiber optic splitters, pigtails, connectors and adapters.
